It is important to understand that addiction is a brain disease, a primary disease.
A qualified and experienced alcohol/drug counselor will administer an appropriate test to determine if an individual would be best served by an inpatient or an outpatient treatment program.
Inpatient Treatment places the individual in a protective environment and gives them the time for their brain to heal so that the professionals can begin the counseling/recovery process. It is recommended that a inpatient treatment program be for no less than three months and should include a transitional system into a half-way house.
Outpatient Treatment is for those who may not have been assessed as addicted but need a formal support program to maintain a sober and/or drug free life style.
